Townhouse Fire

July 4, 2023 – At 8:30 PM the Mill Creek Fire Company was dispatched to a structure fire located in the 4700 block of Weatherhill Drive in the Weatherhill community off of Stoney Batter Road.   Multiple calls were received by the New Castle County 9-1-1 center reporting the fire.
 

Firefighters from Mill Creek, Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, Christiana, Cranston Heights, Elsmere, Goodwill, Hockessin, Minquas, and Wilmington Manor Fire Company’s responded to the alarm.   Units arriving on the scene found heavy smoke pouring from the structure with fire from the roof.   Over fifty (50) firefighters battled the blaze which also caused damage to the adjoining two townhouses.
 

Cover up services were provided by Claymont, Five Points and Belvedere Fire Company’s.   No injuries were reported but the fire displaced three families.  The American Red Cross was called to assist these families.   New Castle County Paramedics were on the scene along with ambulances from Mill Creek and Cranston Heights Fire Companies along with the New Castle County Police.  
 

Road closures were set up at the entrance to the community and reopened around 10 PM.   The fire was placed under control at 9:36 PM.   The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
