July 29, 2023 – At 2:00 PM the Mill Creek Fire Company was dispatched to a structure fire in the 4800 block of Plum Run Court, Village of Plum Run in Pike Creek Valley. The 9-1-1 Center stared to get reports of a subject was trapped in the residence and black smoke was seen coming from a second-floor window.
A firefighter living across the street was able to make access to the home to search for the subject. It was later determined no one was in the home at the time of the fire. Firefighters extinguished a fire in a second-floor bedroom which sustained heavy damage. The home also had heavy smoke damage. Two dogs were rescued, and one cat perished.
Thirty firefighters from Mill Creek, Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, Christiana, Cranston Heights, Elsmere and Hockessin Fire Companies battled the blaze. Emergency medical services from the New Castle County Paramedics, Mill Creek, Aetna, Cranston Heights were on the scene. No injuries were reported.
Goodwill and Claymont Fire Companies covered Mill Creek and Elsmere Fire Companies. The fire was placed under control at 2:20 PM. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
