March 1, 2024 – Mill Creek Fire Company was dispatched for a small animal rescue at the Carousel Park dog park just off Skyline Drive around 2:21 PM in Pike Creek Valley.    A small dog entered an underground burrow and could not back out of the hole.   The animal, a small terrier named Ellie, was in the hole for approximately 45 minutes before the fire company was notified.

Units arrived on the scene and started to dig out the hole.   New Castle County Carousel Park personnel also responded to the scene to assist with the rescue.  Rescue personnel were able to reach the dog approximately three feet underground in fifteen minutes.   The dog was reunited with its owner and was uninjured.   All units cleared the scene at 3:39 PM.
