MVC w/Entrapment - Stanton Road and Rock Avenue

Thursday, July 16, 2015

Stanton - On January 15, 2012 at 4:57 PM Mill Creek Fire Company was dispatched to a motor vehicle crash with entrapment on Stanton Road and Rock Avenue.   As rescue apparatus were responding from Station 2 and 21, Mill Creek's ambulance arrived on the scene within a few minutes and reported one patient in the motor vehicle with heavy entrapment.  The vehicle had left the roadway, striking and toppling trees and finally coming to rest on a 45 degree angle down an embankment.   The single patient was trapped in the vehicle for 35 minutes while rescue crews cut through the vehicle.   During the rescue a Mill Creek Fire Company EMT was able to climb into the crushed vehicle to assist with stabilizing the patient and providing medical care.   Approximately ten firefighters, EMTS and paramedics surrounded the vehicle first stabilizing the partially turned over vehicle and using multiple types of hydraulic rescue tools (Jaws of Life) to free the patient.   The patient was transported to the Christiana Hospital and the scene was placed under control at 6:16 PM.  New Castle County Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
