Training is a vital part of being a volunteer firefighter and EMT. Mill Creek Fire Company's personnel attend the Delaware State Fire School in Dover for all levels of training from basic firefighting, hazardous materials operations, search and rescue, leadership, basic life support, firefighting foam to fire ground operations and more.
Occasional we have the opportunity to practice our skills on property scheduled for demolition. Thanks to the new owners of the CVS store location in Stanton several homes were provided to Mill Creek Fire Company firefighters.
For three days we had several sessions of ladder truck operations. The training included an overview of building construction and size up, along with hands on overhaul, ventilation, and search and rescue training in the structures. Ventilation training included ladder work, roof operations safety, using hand tools to open a roof, and using power tools to open a roof.
Again, a special thank you to CVS for giving us real-life scenarios to practice our skills.
