Condominium Fire

Thursday, July 16, 2015

August 31, 2013 - Mill Creek Fire Company was alerted to a multi-residential fire at the Linden Knoll Condominiums at 8:28 PM.   Fire apparatus from Mill Creek, Hockessin and Aetna Hose ,Hook and Ladder quickly responded to the call.  As Mill Creek firefighters arrived in front of 3605 Hewn Lane there was no indication of any fire or smoke.  Firefighters ascended to the fourth floor and after entering the condo encountered fire rolling across the ceiling inside the condo.  Visibility was only a couple feet off the floor as dense smoke started to fill the unit.  A box alarm was initiated bringing additional resources from Minquas, Belvedere and Cranston Heights fire companies.  The condo suffered heavy fire damaged to a single area of the condo with smoke damage throughout.   The occupants were able to secure the condo door leading to the hallway to contain the blaze inside the unit which prevented the fire from spreading throughout the building.  Firefighters began the overhaul process to insure the fire did not spread into surrounding walls or the attic.   Crews were on the scene for approximately two hours.   Around 35 firefighters and  EMS personnel responded to the alarm.  The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the blaze which does not appear to be suspicious.  Damage estimates were not available and there were no injuries reported to firefighters or occupants of the building.
