Marshallton – On Wednesday February 12, 2013 at 6:10 PM Mill Creek Fire Company was alerted to a multi-family structure fire at 2100 Grafton Drive, Red Clay Creek Apartments. Within a minute of dispatch the alarm was upgraded to a working structure fire after the New Castle County Fireboard started to receive multiple calls. The original dispatch included Cranston Heights and Belvedere Fire Companies and was upgraded to include Elsmere and Minquas Fire Companies along with multiple EMS units. Arriving apparatus found heavy fire showing from the rear of the structure. The fire engulfed two units in the building causing heavy heat and smoke damage to the remaining two units. Over 50 firefighters battled the blaze before it was brought under control. There were no injuries to firefighters or building occupants. The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. The American Red Cross is assisting the twelve displaced residents.
