Townhouse Fire

Pike Creek Valley – A fire destroyed a townhouse and damaged others in the 4900 block S. Raintree Court in the Pepperridge townhome community Monday evening at 10:51 PM.   Firefighters arrived on the scene in minutes and found the middle of the row townhouse engulfed with fire.    Firefighters quickly contained the fire to avoid spreading to neighboring units.   Over 75 firefighters fought the fire in 85 degree heat.  Two firefighters were taken to the hospital and released later.  The blaze was placed under control a couple of hours after the initial response.  Firefighters from Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, Hockessin, Belvedere, Christiana,  Cranston Heights, Five Points, Elsmere, Minquas Fire Companies and the St Francis Hospital Rehab unit assisted Mill Creek.  Numerous other fire companies were brought into the area to cover up fire stations at the scene.  Multiple ambulances and medic units responded.   Firefighters remained on the scene until 3:00 AM pouring water onto the collapsed structure.  The Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire..  A special "thank you" to the neighbors in this community whow went out of their way to provide bottled water and other items to the firefighters.
